Great Start to 2016
20 January 2016

It was a hectic end to last year with trips to Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Vietnam and Bangkok.

I managed to hit quite a few good shots, but unfortunately I also threw in a few bad Sundays which didn't make for the results I hoped for.

But all in all some encouragement especially since adopting the Matt Kuchar putting method which has brought more consistency.

I hadn't been home long before the bags were being packed again, but this time it was to my favourite destination - Abaco in the Bahamas and a great time was had by all over Christmas and New Year.

But I didn't completely have my mind off the day job because I had a huge dossier from my statisticians, 15th Club, to go through every night.

I wanted to ensure I was fully up to speed and totally prepared for the first challenge of 2016 - captaining Europe's side for the EurAsia Cup, my first experience of the role.

It was an excellent week in KL and the team spirit was very special, the guys really bonded well and the camaraderie was synonymous with what Team Europe is all about.

We were a collective 44 under par in the fourballs on the first day and with just one bogey from six foursomes pairings the second day it made for some awesome scoring.  In the Sunday singles they all showed why they are such wonderful champions to produce an emphatic 18 1/2 to 5 1/2 victory over a very strong Asian side led by my good friend and wonderful gentleman, Jeev Milkha Singh.

I learned quite a lot during the week which will help me when we go to Hazeltine for the Ryder Cup in September, not least the need for more Play Stations in the team room.

All in all, a wonderful week and a very encouraging start to the year.

Hopefully some of the great golf I watched the European team playing in KL will rub off on me when I start again in Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Dubai.
