Desert Swing

Well it's been a very busy time for me since the holidays. I played my first tournament of the year in Abu Dhabi followed by a week practising in Dubai and then the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The results in both the events I played weren't particularly what I was looking for but the long game is in good shape and once I get the short stick to find the target on a more regular basis there should be some good coming out of all the hard work. I've got a new man on the bag this year in the shape of Jamie Lane and he's been a great help as has Wayne Johnson from Jumeirah Golf Estates who has been helping out on the coaching front.

During my week practising in Dubai I took a day off and went fishing with my mate Steve Lee and we managed a haul of about 18 Dorado. It was an awesome day and hope you like the pic of me and one of the bigger fish!

There's been plenty going on away from the golf course, including the filming of a new Your Golf Travel commercial with my buddy, Lee Westwood. As you can well imagine we had plenty of fun at the Els Club in Dubai in front of the cameras. So you'll all have to wait and see what we got up to!

I am also delighted to have been announced as patron of the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Golf Tour. This young developmental tour is aimed at national amateur and professional players and has support from the R&A and the Arab Golf Federation.

My role as patron will be passing on advice to the up and coming players and also assisting in the packaging of the circuit. The tour has grown so much since it was started five years ago and I'm looking forward to being involved in its further growth and stature.

On the Friday of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic the promoters, Golf in Dubai headed up by David Spencer, had a Pink Friday to raise awareness of breast cancer and it was fantastic to see players, caddies and spectators all getting into the spirit of the occasion. Golf in Dubai always put on the most fantastic event and this year was exceptional in every way.

That's all for now. Cheers, DC.
