Regular updates on what I have been up to around the world.

Across the pond
7 November 2013

Hi there from the USA where, as you will have probably all read by now, I have joined the PGA Tour for 2014 and I'm taking up the opportunity of my exemption from the Open Championship win.

My first outing is this week at The McGladrey Classic at the gorgeous Sea Island Resort in Georgia. The tournament host is my good pal Davis Love III so it's great for me to begin my US campaign at his event and coming off some pretty good form in recent events. After that I'm off to Mexico to play in the OHL Classic at Mayakoba being played at El Camaleon.

I played well in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship up in Scotland shooting four rounds in the 60s and finishing 12th. My partner in the Pro-Am side of the event was the Commissioner of the South African Tour, Selwyn Nathan, who played extremely well and we finished on the grand total of 35 under par and in 6th spot, having had our best day on the Friday at Kingsbarns where we were 13 under par! It was great to see David Howell returning to form and winning the play-off against Peter Uihlein.

I then went off to play in the Nanshan China Masters where I continued to play well and finished second on eight under. It was a good week for me albeit making a bogey on the 17th in the final round put paid to my chances of a win.

I had a bit of a break and then went down to Amendoeira in Portugal for the Darren Clarke Foundation Champions Weekend. This is the first time the event has been held outside Ireland and the move definitely paid dividends as the weather was great as was the quality of the golf. These juniors never fail to impress me and they certainly did so again.

I have embarked on a healthy diet and fitness programme under the guidance of Jamie Myerscough from Educogym and have to say that although it's pretty hard sticking to the regime, it's paying off and I'm beginning to feel the benefits of increased energy and less tight clothes!

On a sad note we had to say a final goodbye to Obi, one of our gorgeous Irish Wolfhounds a few weeks ago, who had a tumour on his leg. We were all very upset but the boys are now looking forward to the arrival of two Irish Wolfhound puppies and are spending plenty of time thinking of names! They'll certainly be keeping us all on our toes for a while!

That's all for the time being and here's hoping for some more good results in the following couple of weeks.

All the best, Darren.
