A Momentous Year
16 December 2015

The year 2015 will go down as one of the most momentous in my sporting life.

I'd like to say that it's because of my own achievements, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case this season although I have put in all the effort and dedication that I have in previous years.

What made 2015 a standout year was the European Tour bestowing their highest honour on me - the Ryder Cup captaincy.  Not only that, but they also invited me to become leader of Europe's EurAsia Cup team.

I was delighted and honoured to accept both, not least in the knowledge that in Hazeltine next September and Kuala Lumpur next month I will be up against two of my biggest friends in the game, American captain Davis Love and Asian skipper Jeev Milkha Singh.   I could not have picked more appropriate opposite numbers.

We may be rivals for the week, but we will return to what we were before when business has been completed.

The EurAsia Cup is not only rapidly becoming one of the most prestigious events on the two Tours' calendars, but also one which will benefit Europe's Ryder Cup chances.

I will get the opportunity to assess several players who will be involved in team golf's greatest competition later in the year, for how they are both on and off the course in a team environment.

I have also been delighted by the enthusiasm of those who will represent Europe in Kuala Lumpur.   There will be a great spirit within the team and all will benefit from the experience.  I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm also looking forward to family time over the holiday period because it's been a hectic 2015 and an even busier New Year.

But after re-charging the batteries in Abaco over Christmas, I'll be ready for the huge challenges ahead.   I may even see an improvement in my own form as what I have to do off the course ensures I don't worry too much about what I'm doing on it.

Anyway, this is me signing off for 2015 and I'd just like to say a big thank you to all those who have given me their support throughout it.... and to wish everybody a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
